View of Mogoro Mogoro is one of the most important centres in the province di Oristano and the most populated one in Upper Marmilla. The place-name presents a significant similarity to the Basque Mokòr and the Spanish Mogòte, meaning 'tableland, hilly top, low hill'. In the local language, the village is called Mòguru and its villagers Mogoresusu.

The territory has a remarkable archaeological value, its anthropization dating back to the prehistorical age. The main sites are the prehistorical village of Puisteris and the Nuragic complex of Cuccurada, but there are also ruins of Roman and Punic settlements

Carpet Fair The Carpet and Handicraft Fair of Mogoro is celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2006. Born in 1961, thanks to the initiative of a few villagers - a group of women and wood artisans, led by the municipal Authority of that time - it had the purpose of teaching the traditional art of weaving and, most of all, of educating the public to the taste of authentic Sardinian tradition in its purest form.

Thanks to this important exhibition, Mogoro has become a magnet for Italian and foreign tourists, attracted by shopping and cultural treasures of the island tradition. Made-in-Sardinia handicraft is now ...
